Kevin Harvick Wins in Las Vegas

Viva Las Vegas! Kevin Harvick’s winless streak came to an end in exactly the fashion and location he wanted it to.

Dating back to last season, the defending Sprint Cup Series champion had registered six consecutive top-two finishes before winning his first race of the season on Sunday, and for the first time in his career at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The celebration got underway right after the checkered flag, complete with burnouts and a blown out tire.

The win gives Harvick a near-certain berth in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, but he and his team are staying focused on the here and now.

“We just have to keep our heads down and keep doing everything that we’ve been doing,” Harvick said. “This isn’t a bunch of guys that are just going to go out and brag. We’re going to race every week like we have never won a race before. That’s the kind of determination that you need when you are going to do this stuff.”

Harvick led 142 of the 267 laps on Sunday. Chevy boasted the top four finishers as Ryan Newman finished in third while a pair of Jrs. (Martin Truex and Dale Earnhardt) finished second and fourth respectively.

The next stop on the NASCAR circuit is in Phoenix, Arizona.
