Kevin Harvick Wins at Phoenix Again

Kevin Harvick loves the desert heat. The defending Sprint Cup champion won his fourth consecutive race at the Phoenix International Speedway on Sunday.

For the third straight time Harvick led more than 200 laps and has now won five of the last six races at Phoenix and a record seven in total. Dominating the NASCAR series has become commonplace for Harvick as his streak of top-two finishes reached seven, which dates back to last season.

Harvick is being mentioned in the same breath as the great Richard Petty, the last NASCAR driver to record seven consecutive top-two finishes when he accomplished the feat in 1974. Of course Harvick knows that racing is a team sport and he offered high praise for his Rodney Childers-led team.

“I feel like we get better as we go through different situations,” Harvick said. “You see these guys hang out together, how mellow everybody is, how everybody gets along. It’s really, really special to be a part of. It’s scary how well we get along with each other. I don’t want to talk about it sometimes so I don’t jinx it.”

Jamie McMurray finished second while Ryan Newman was third in Phoenix followed by Kasey Kahne and the recently-reinstated Kurt Busch in fifth place.

Harvick will look to continue his success as the Sprint Cup Series heads to the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California next Sunday for the Auto Club 400.
