According to reports from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport and others, the Jacksonville Jaguars have promoted their defensive line coach, Todd Wash, up to defensive coordinator. Wash had been in that role since 2013, and had previously worked with Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley for the Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and North Dakota State University before that.

Even though the Jaguars gave up the second-most points in the league last season, the defensive line still performed well. Football Outsiders ranked Jacksonville as having the eighth-best run defense in the league last season, which was Wash’s primary focus. The 2015 Jaguars succeeded even though NFL Top 100 player Sen’Derrick Marks appeared in just four total games last season, and also the #3 overall pick of the 2015 Draft, defensive end Dante Fowler, Jr., tore his ACL in the offseason and did not appear at all.

Earlier this offseason, the Jaguars had fired Bob Babich, who had been the team’s defensive coordinator since 2013. The Jaguars switched offensive coordinators last offseason, moving from Jedd Fisch to Greg Olson, moving from 32nd to 14th in overall points scores.
