Highest Ranking Ever for Northern Iowa

College Basketball Today

The Northern Iowa Panthers are ranked No. 11 in the latest AP College Basketball Poll, the highest ever in school history. The Panthers have compiled a 24-2 record in 2014-2015 and currently lead the Missouri Valley Conference.

Kentucky was the unanimous No. 1 for the third straight week and with five more weeks atop the poll will become the eighth team in NCAA men’s history to stay No. 1 all season long and the first since Jerry Tarkanian’s UNLV Runnin’ Rebels in 1991.

Northern Iowa has won 13 straight games and climbed two spots this week. The Panthers drilled 12 three-pointers in their most recent victory, yesterday’s hard-fought 67-58 win at Missouri State. Northern Iowa has four games remaining in the regular season, including a rematch on the road in the season finale against 13th-ranked Wichita State.

Northern Iowa beat the Shockers 70-54 at home earlier this season. The Panthers’ two defeats on the season came at Virginia Commonwealth, a 93-89 double overtime thriller and in the conference-opener, 52-49 at Evansville.
