Five NFL Players Who Should Retire, But Probably Won’t

The NFL free agency period is set to begin in a couple of weeks and veterans will begin looking for new contracts.

Whether it’s a lack of production or too many injuries, there are some players who should call it a career. It’s a hard thing to do seeing as the sport has been such a big part of their lives, but even the best career must come to an end.

Here are five free agents who should consider hanging up their pads.

5. Ronnie Brown, RB

NFL: DEC 08 Giants at Chargers

Running backs tend to lose a lot of value when they reach a certain age and Brown has passed the 30-year-old threshold. They are the one position that takes the most hits, as their job involves trying to run by the biggest guys on the field.

Brown doubles as a pass-catching running back, which has helped prolong his career. The 33-year-old could be seen as a value to the loser of the Shane Vereen sweepstakes, but it’s tough to predict how productive he can be. The former top-five pick has had a good career, but it may be time for it to come to a close.
