Apparently Tiger believes his game isn’t quite ready yet, or he wants his days and evenings free in order to catch all the March Madness action. Either way, the world’s No. 79 ranked golfer will miss the Arnold Palmer Invitational for the second-consecutive year after registering victories in both 2012 and 2013. Woods has enjoyed tremendous success at Bay Hill, winning eight previous tournaments, but will continue working on his game in the hopes of playing in The Masters.
Woods has only played 47 holes of competitive golf this season, lessening the odds of a Sunday charge at Augusta National.
There are only two tournaments after Bay Hill before the season’s first major, and at this time Woods has not committed to playing in either the Valero Texas Open or the Shell Houston Open.
“I’ve put in a lot of time and work on my game and I’m making strides, but like I’ve said, I won’t return to the PGA Tour until my game is tournament ready and I can compete at the highest level,” Woods said on his website Friday. “I hope to be ready for the Masters, and I will continue to work hard preparing for Augusta.”
