The Miami Dolphins announced today that wide receiver Rishard Matthews on Injured Reserve due to broken ribs. The Dolphins close out their season by hosting the New England Patriots on Sunday, and Miami has already been eliminated from the playoffs with a 5-10 record.

Matthews has not appeared for the Dolphins since Week 12, agains the New York Jets, and has not caught a pass since Week 11 against the Dallas Cowboys. Still, 2015 counted as a career year for Matthews, who was in his fourth year with the Dolphins since being selected by the team in the seventh round of the 2012 Draft. In the first three seasons of Matthews’ career, he totaled 64 receptions for 734 yards and 19.3 receiving yards per game. This season, in just eleven games played, Matthews caught 43 passes for 662 yards, or 60.2 yards per game.

Despite appearing in only 11 games, Matthews has the second-most receiving yards on the Dolphins this season, significantly ahead of Dolphins trade acquisition Kenny Stills (26 receptions, 429 yards) and 2015 first-round pick DeVante Parker (21 receptions, 388 yards). Miami is only 22nd in the league in passing yards, entering the final game of the season.

Among active players who were drafted in the seventh round or later (undrafted), Matthews is fifth in receiving yards, trailing only Ahmad Bradshaw, Julian Edelman, Steve Johnson, and the clear leader, Marques Colston. Matthews is currently scheduled to be a free agent following this season.
