Between the Dirt Sheets | Raw Is Dixieland?

The WWE is in for a big week. Raw and NXT officially begin down the path toward SummerSlam, while SmackDown Live has its final show prior to Battleground, the last WWE PPV before the biggest show of the summer.

The rumors are flying hot and heavy coming into what should be a jam-packed week — some are a bit wacky, while others seem more like a matter of time until they take place. Ultimately, you can’t please everyone, but it seems like the WWE is shooting its shot.

Dixie Carter is Kurt Angle’s mystery lover

For months, Kurt Angle has been embroiled in a text/email scandal which also conspicuously involves Raw announcer Corey Graves. After Graves also helped uncover the Enzo Amore-Big Cass attacker charade, he has been attempting to help Angle work through an apparent blackmail.

Raw went off the air last week with Angle promising to come clean next week on Raw, confessing his love to a mystery person on the phone. Not surprisingly, rumors have circulated with everyone from Stephanie McMahon to even Dixie Carter being on the other end of the line.

Carter’s name has come up as a possibility after her appearance on the WWE 24 documentary that was released on Angle this past week, which talked about his return to the company after a decade-long absence (which included a stint in Dixie-run TNA). Raw emanates from Nashville next week, territory that Carter is familiar with.

Angle’s decision to come clean also comes just over a month before SummerSlam, with rumors of his return to the ring heating up as well. He will be a playable character in WWE 2K18 (for what that’s worth), which could mean his mystery lover also equates to his resigning of the general manager role and returning to in-ring action.

Odds this rumor takes place: 1 out of 5.

Color me shocked if the former TNA president is on Raw in the capacity of being Angle’s faux lover. It seems Angle will have to be written out of the GM role eventually, leading to a return in the ring, with his two likeliest opponents being either Samoa Joe or Triple H for SummerSlam, depending on how events play out.

Adam Cole set to sign with WWE and debut in NXT

One of the megastars of the independent wrestling scene, Adam Cole appears WWE-bound. The NXT promotion has had a knack for debuting superstars (most recently, Drew McIntyre) by sitting them ringside at TakeOver events and announcing them as new members of the roster, a treatment Cole may get next August in Brooklyn.

After his removal from the uber-popular group, Bullet Club, Cole has been waiting for his next opportunity. Possible collisions with Kenny Omega in NJPW seem to have been shelved in favor of taking the next step up the professional ladder.

Odds this rumor takes place: 4.9999 out of 5.

I suppose anything is possible, but Adam Cole appears to be the next WWE signee. If he was going to return to the independents, he would have signed by now and been embroiled in a war against the Bullet Club; instead, he has taken bookings without a contract, and will allow himself to enter the WWE during the summer, stepping into a role as possibly the biggest name on the NXT brand.

Enzo Amore not pleased with WWE’s decision to break-up with Big Cass

Aside from obvious reasons, Enzo Amore is reportedly not all that happy with creative deciding to ditch his partnership with Big Cass. Some of those obvious reasons include the fact that without Cass, Enzo’s future with the company is less clear, along with the fact that despite being one of the more popular tag teams in recent history, the duo never claimed the Tag Team Titles either at NXT or in the WWE.

Then, rather than getting a big sendoff, Enzo got squashed by Cass at the Great Balls of Fire PPV. The two could potentially have one last showdown in their backyard of Brooklyn at SummerSlam, but beyond that, it’s hard to see where Amore goes.

There’s always the possibility of 205 Live, which could desperately use his injection of charisma, but it’s hard to see the WWE’s current microphone maestro taking a step down off the main roster.

Odds this rumor is true: 4.75 out of 5.

Enzo has all the reason in the world to be hot about this. His career with the company is placed severely in doubt, on top of the fact that the two never got to hold tag gold together despite being more than qualified; plus, to make matters worse, the breakup hasn’t been worth the hype.
