Derrick Rose to Return Wednesday

Derrick Rose is set to return. Again.

Rose is set to play tonight against the Orlando Magic after sitting out almost six weeks after undergoing a meniscectomy on his right knee in February.

The plan is to slowly bring Rose along, as Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said Rose should expect to play about 20 minutes in tonight’s game. The Bulls have five games remaining before the playoffs, which should allow Rose to find some rhythm and improve his conditioning in the mean time.

The Bulls are 46-31 on the season, currently sitting in the No. 3 spot in the Eastern Conference. Rose missed the last 20 games, which saw the Bulls go 10-10.

Rose will certainly help on the court, but overall this season has been a disappointment in terms of numbers for the point guard. He’s just third on the team in scoring at 18.4 points per game. He’s fourth in PER on the team behind Jimmy Butler, Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic. Throw that in with just five assists a game and just 40 percent shooting, and it’s been a forgettable season.

Nonetheless, the return of Rose should provide a boost to the Bulls, and it certainly increases their chances of advancing in the playoffs.
