Denver Nuggets Hire Mike Malone as Head Coach

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowksi, the Denver Nuggets have reached an agreement to hire former Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Malone as their next head coach.

Malone, who was 39-67 in two seasons with the Kings, agreed to a four-year deal.

The Nuggets’ search for their next head coach was on after firing Brian Shaw in March in the midst of a 30-52 season. The team also considered hiring interim head coach Melvin Hunt and former Suns, Knicks and Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni, but ultimately decided on Malone after he made a connection with general manager Tim Connelly and president Josh Kroenke.

The Kings seemed to overachieve under Malone, but he was fired after an 11-13 start while DeMarcus Cousins was hospitalized with an illness.
