As reported by Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, brand-new San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly has fired ten incumbent assistant coaches, from both sides of the ball. Among the fired coaches is Geep Chryst, who had just completed his first season as San Francisco’s offensive coordinator after spending four seasons as the team’s quarterbacks coach.

Matt Miller of Bleacher Report adds that Kelly will be interviewing former NFL linebacker Mike Vrabel for the spot of defensive coordinator, a position that is still currently filled by veteran coach Eric Mangini. Vrabel, who played 14 NFL seasons, became an assistant coach with his alma mater Ohio State immediately after retiring following the 2010 NFL season. Vrabel spent three seasons coaching position groups for the Buckeyes, and has coached linebackers for the Houston Texans for the last two seasons.

Heading into free agency season, the 49ers have $44.8 million in cap space, or the fourth-most cap space in the league, with Anquan Boldin, among others, scheduled to become a free agent. San Francisco also currently owns the 7th overall pick in this spring’s draft.
