They know a thing or two about grilling in Kansas City, and Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones is taking things to the next level. According to Sarah Gish of the Kansas City Star:

“At 6 p.m. Thursday, April 27, Smithfield will team up with two world-class barbecue pros and Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones at Arrowhead Stadium to attempt to set the Guinness World Record for largest grilling session.”

Gish goes on to note that anyone can come to the event, where they may meet Jones. There’s no charge. Those who want to come don’t even have to bring a grill. Smithfield is going to have everything that is needed, from grilling tools to the grills to the meat itself. They’re just hoping to get a minimum of 250 people so that they can set the record.

The Chiefs will want a lot out of Jones in 2017 since Dontari Poe is now playing for the Atlanta Falcons. Per Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride, Jones said this when asked about Poe:

“Yeah, I miss Poe. When I came in, Poe welcomed me in with open arms. I used to watch what he ate. I used to eat what he did. He ate four eggs, oatmeal, cut up half a banana and put it in the oatmeal. I didn’t like it, but I still ate it because Poe ate it. It was crazy man. (Defensive line coach) Britt (Reid) and I talked about it the other day. I used to be his shadow.”

Perhaps Jones’ interest in setting the world record for the largest grilling session actually stems from the fact that Poe is gone and he no longer has to eat bananas and oatmeal.
