NHL: APR 20 Panthers at Devils

Shero’s Loyalty at Work Again as Devils Hire John Hynes

In an effort to find a steward to lead the ship that is the New Jersey Devils, new general manager Ray Shero looked to someone he is very familiar with. Shero brought John Hynes in as new head coach of the Devils, mirroring the time he first hired Haynes as an AHL assistant coach six years ago.

Slapshot’s James Conley takes a closer look at Shero’s loyalty and how it led to the hiring of Hynes. He also assess the Devils as they stand now and how long it might take them to return to the postseason for the first time since losing the Stanley Cup Final to the Los Angeles Kings in 2012.

NBA: APR 23 Western Conference 1st Round - Game 3 - Warriors at Pelicans

Shaun Livingston has Come a Long Way Since Gruesome Knee Injury

A feel-good story that has slipped through the cracks somewhat is that of Golden State Warriors back-up guard Shaun Livingston. After suffering a gruesome knee injury that held him out for a year and then being released by the Los Angeles  Clippers, it appeared Livingston’s NBA career was over. He was only 22 years old.

Now at 29, he’s playing in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Fastbreak’s Ryan Davis tells Livingston’s story and explains why he is not only rooting for the Warriors to win it all, but for Livingston to raise the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Today’s Knuckleball

MLB: MAY 24 Cardinals at Royals

Top Trade Targets for the St. Louis Cardinals

Ryan Davis makes his second appearance on this list with this piece for Today’s Knuckleball about which players the St. Louis Cardinals could target to help boost their team for a playoff run. While the Cardinals are sitting pretty atop the NL Central with the best record in MLB, there are still two holes they need to address.

Davis says St. Louis needs to add more starting pitching and should make an effort to acquire another first baseman. See who he believes would fit the Cardinals in their effort to get back to and win the World Series.

Today’s Pigskin

NFL: OCT 20 Patriots at Jets

Young receivers ready to break out for New England Patriots

Despite all of their success, the New England Patriots (sans the Randy Moss years) were known for having below-average receiving corps. Players like Deion Branch and Julian Edelman have been the top targets on Super Bowl-winning teams.

The Patriots have had virtually no luck drafting receivers either. They’ve spent fairly high picks on the position, only to have them to flame out. However, things may be different this time around.

Pigskin’s Stephen Sheehan breaks down New England’s receiving situation and compiles a list of young pass catchers ready to have an impact in 2015.
