MLB: MAY 28 Red Sox at Tigers

Detroit Tigers Must Consider Selling at Trade Deadline

The Detroit Tigers are a handful of games behind the Kansas City Royals in the AL Central, but are right in the thick of things in the wild card race. With the trade deadline approaching, general manager Dave Dombrowski must quickly determine whether his team is a buyer or seller.

Detroit has about a month to come to a conclusion, but Knuckleball’s Shane Mettlen says the Tigers need to consider being sellers. By rebuilding the farm system, the Tigers can bolster their youth on the fly and increase their chances of winning it all in 2016.

NHL Draft: Auston Matthews and the Next Franchise Talents

The 2015 NHL Draft wrapped up last weekend in sunny Florida, but it’s never too early to get started looking at next year’s rankings. Sitting atop draft boards is a player from an unlikely location — Arizona.

Slapshot’s Robert Nasso breaks down the top five prospects to watch heading into next year’s draft, including the aforementioned Auston Matthews.

Today’s Pigskin

NFL: DEC 28 Panthers at Falcons

Jonathan Stewart is the key to the Carolina Panthers’ offense

Jonathan Stewart has never truly had the opportunity to be “the guy” in Carolina. There were always one or two other backs splitting up the workload for the Panthers, most notably DeAngelo Williams. Now that Williams is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Stewart has the starting job all to himself.

Pigskin’s Jake Perper says Stewart will be the key to the Panthers’ offense in 2015. Carolina is a run-first team and will lean heavily on the veteran running back. If he can stay healthy, Stewart is in line for a big year.

Fastbreak’s Ben Stram goes in-depth on the top prospects for next year’s draft. There are a surprising amount of freshmen on the list. Check it out.

NCAA BASKETBALL: MAR 13 AAC Championship Ð Memphis v Temple

Cameron Payne is Problematic for Josh Pastner

While head basketball coaches miss out on hidden gems all the time, Memphis coach Josh Pastner missing out on Cameron Payne is especially troubling. It’s not because Payne was a can’t-miss prospect — that’s certainly not the case.

U’s Kyle Kensing says the situation is problematic because Memphis is yet to come anywhere close to the glory it had under John Calipari. Payne would have thrived at Memphis, and helped restore some prestige back to the basketball program.
