Braden Holtby Deserves Big Payday from Capitals

Braden Holtby carried the Washington Capitals into the postseason and was their best player in the first two rounds before being eliminated by the New York Rangers in Game 7 of the second round. The starting goaltender is a pending restricted free agent and is about to cash in.

Slapshot’s James Conley says that while there is some risk in handing out a big contract to a goaltender, it’s a bigger risk to let him walk or sign him short-term. He says Holtby is very deserving of a big payday.

Wilmer Flores Rewarding Mets’, Fans’ Patience

The New York Mets may have finally found their shortstop of the future. After years of searching for a proper replacement for Jose Reyes, Wilmer Flores is stepping up in a big way.

Entering Monday’s opener against the Toronto Blue Jays, Flores was tied with Jhonny Peralta for the most home runs of any player at the shortstop position with 10, fifth among all at the position with 30 RBI, and fifth among qualifiers with a .431 slugging percentage, higher than players like Starlin Castro (12th) and Ian Desmond (13th)

Knuckleball’s Ethan Norof says with Flores’ emergence, the Mets can finally turn their attention elsewhere on the trade market.

Loaded backfield key to Buffalo Bills’ playoff hopes

If the Buffalo Bills are going to end the longest current playoff drought in the NFL, they are going to need a lot of help from their loaded backfield. The addition of LeSean McCoy was the biggest move of the offseason, but the returning Fred Jackson still has plenty of tread on the tires.

Pigskin’s Christian Smith says the performance of their running backs will be the difference maker in 2015. The ability to control the clock and pound away on the ground will determine their fate.

UFC Berlin Preview – Call Her Joanna Champion

For those who have trouble pronouncing Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s last name correctly, they can now simply call her “Joanna Champion.” Jedrzejczyk beat down Carla Esparza at UFC 185. Now, she is slated to fight Jessica Penne in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Berlin, Germany on Saturday night.

Knockout’s Jordy McElroy says: “Penne is a good fighter, but Jedrzejczyk is a great fighter. There is a big difference between the two, and the world will see why on Saturday when Jedrzejczyk earns another TKO.”
