Today’s Knuckleball

MLB: MAY 06 White Sox at Royals

Royals Face Tough Roster Decisions Ahead

The Kansas City Royals sit in first place in the American League Central Division, but their bats have gone rather cold as of late. There is not much they can do about it since Kansas City does not have too much roster flexibility.

Knuckleball’s Shane Mettlen says manipulating the 25-man roster could be one of the biggest challenges for manager Ned Yost and general manager Dayton Moore this season. Are they willing to expose a struggling player to waivers in order to call up a young player? Those decisions aren’t easy, but they are necessary.

Today’s Slapshot

NHL: DEC 22 Coyotes at Canucks

It’s Time For the Coyotes to Pay Mikkel Boedker

For NHL restricted free agents who have yet to sign a deal, both they and the team can elect to bring their case to arbitration, where a judge will determine an appropriate salary the team can either accept or reject. In the meantime, both sides can continue working toward a deal.

Such is the case with the Arizona Coyotes and forward Mikkel Boedker. The young winger has shown flashes of brilliance, but is yet to fully breakthrough. Slapshot’s Sebastian Noren says it’s time for the Coyotes to pay Boedker and lock him up long-term.

Today’s Pigskin

NFL: SEP 21 49ers at Cardinals

John Brown ready to break out for Arizona Cardinals

Speedy wide receiver John Brown played college football in relative obscurity at Pittsburg State before the Arizona Cardinals took him in the middle rounds two drafts ago. Last season, he emerged as the team’s premier deep threat.

Pigskin’s Sean Cordy says although Brown was overshadowed a bit by the excellent rookie receiver class, he’s poised to break out this season. If quarterback Carson Palmer can stay healthy, he should be able to get the ball deep to Brown early and often in 2015.
