Astros Promote Top Prospect Carlos Correa

The next step in the Houston Astros development is on its way to the majors in the form of shortstop Carlos Correa.

The team announced they’d be promoting the 2012 No. 1 pick for their series opener on Monday against the Chicago White Sox in Chicago.

Correa hit .332/.404/.602 in 52 games with 10 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A this season. For his minor league career, he’s hit .313/.392/.491.

The 20 year old will replace Marwin Gonzalez at shortstop, who was filling in for the injured Jed Lowrie. Lowrie signed a three-year deal this off-season, so it’s unsure what will happen once he returns. Luis Valbuena mans first base, but he’s hitting just .188 on the season with 12 home runs. Jose Altuve won’t be giving up second base any time soon.
