As initially reported by ESPN’s Field Yates, the Arizona Cardinals have worked out two veteran linebackers, Jason Babin and Matt Shaughnessy. Yates confirms that, if signed, these players could appear for the Cardinals when they host the Green Bay Packers this Saturday evening.
The workouts are perhaps an indication that Cardinals rookie linebacker Markus Golden has not fully recovered from the knee injury that also kept him out of Arizona’s Week 17 game, although Golden’s status has not been officially reported on. After being drafted in the second round by the Cardinals in the 2015 NFL Draft, Golden finished third on the team with four sacks.
Babin, who is currently 35, was released by the New York Jets this preseason, and also appeared in two games for the Baltimore Ravens earlier this season. Shaughnessy played for the Cardinals in both 2013 and 2014, and was released by the team late this preseason.
