American Pharoah entered the Kentucky Derby as the favorite and came along the outside to pass two other horses to capture the 141st Kentucky Derby.
Starting in the 18th post, American Pharoah hung around in third for the first half of the race, trailing Dortmund and Firing Line. In the second half of the race, American Pharoah made a run, giving jockey Victor Espinoza and trainer Bob Baffert the win.
American Pharoah entered the Derby as the favorite at 5-2, followed closely by Dortmund at 3-1. Firing Line, who finished in second, came in as a 12-1 favorite. Frosted, 15-1, finished fourth.
El Kabeir and International Star were each scratched before the race.
