ACC Boasts Two Teams in Top Three

College Basketball Today

The Kentucky Wildcats (29-0) remain undefeated and the unanimous top team in the country again, but it’s two teams from the ACC that are gaining steam.

Tony Bennett’s Virginia Cavaliers (27-1) will have to wait until a potential championship matchup in the ACC Tournament in order to get a shot at avenging their only loss of the season against a Duke Blue Devils (26-3) team rounding into peak shape right in time for March Madness.

Statistically speaking the Cavaliers don’t jump out on paper in any offensive category, their highest ranking (60th) comes courtesy of the offensive glass. What Virginia does better than any team in the country however is what Tony’s father, Dick, preached and practiced every single day of his stellar coaching career–defend, defend, and defend. The Cavaliers allow a mere 50 points per contest, proving once again that defense wins championships. Virginia locked up the ACC regular season championship last night by beating Syracuse, but they have two more championship moments in mind.
