A Hypothetical NBA Trade Deadline Mulligan

A mulligan is most famously used in golf, but what if we could apply the same rule–a second chance to perform a certain move or action–to the NBA trade deadline? Just like in golf, some NBA teams swung and missed terribly. Let’s suspend reality momentarily and give some teams a chance to escape the hazard they put themselves in.

On February 19th, 2015, a flurry of trades occurred in the NBA, marking the most active trade deadline of all time. Players moved between teams like money moves between hands in Las Vegas. It happened so frantically that it was almost impossible to follow in real time. In total, 37 players changed teams, as did 12 possible draft picks, and the majority of the activity took place within the last hour prior to the deadline.

Now with the clarity of hindsight working in my favor, I’d like to take a look at some of the moves made on or around the trade deadline and give each team involved a chance to take a mulligan.
