Forget about catching Star Wars: Episode VII the day it comes out. One of the most intriguing NHL sagas in recent memory is playing out between Ryan Johansen and the Columbus Blue Jackets right now. Blink and you might miss a development. Go to sleep and you may miss the latest rumor from Darren Dreger or Aaron Portzline.
Since the Blue Jackets hired John Tortorella on Oct. 21, the team’s already rocky relationship with Johansen has deteriorated faster than Meek Mill’s career did after Drake released Back to Back this summer. Johansen’s name has been showing up in the rumor mill since the Blue Jackets opened the season with the worst stretch of play in franchise history, but it’s becoming pretty clear that he’s not a Tortorella-type player.
The closest thing that the Blue Jackets have to a franchise player, Johansen was benched by Tortorella in late October due to poor conditioning. He’s also been benched during two separate third periods, and was a healthy scratch on Thursday night against the Arizona Coyotes.
While the team has reportedly been listening to offers for a while now, Today’s Slapshot reports that the Blue Jackets are actively calling teams in regards to a deal involving Johansen. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the destinations that could be the best fit for the forward.
Keep in mind while reading this that we are simply speculating. We’re just looking for good fits and at teams that have both the cap space and assets to potentially move in a deal with Columbus.
