The California Golden Bears will be without junior center Kameron Rooks until early 2017. Sources tell FanRag Sports the 7-foot-2 California native will miss the next four to six weeks after undergoing surgery on his left knee.

Rooks was averaging 6.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in the first four outings with Cal through 2016. The Golden Bears have gotten off to a 4-1 start this year.

He racked up 15 minutes of playing time in the team’s 71-61 victory over Wyoming Friday, Nov. 25 before being left out of the lineup in Cal’s win against Southeastern Louisiana two days later.

The center’s best game of the year came against UC Irvine, when he logged 15 points on 34 minutes played. He also netted eight rebounds with a block and a pair of steals in the overtime victory over the Anteaters.

Rooks’ rim presence will likely be missed in upcoming games against No. 6 Virginia and No. 16 Arizona. The Golden Bears also have a pair of high-profile matchups against No. 11 UCLA and No. 23 Oregon in January 2017. If all goes well, Rooks could be back in time for a second meeting with Arizona on Feb. 11 and Oregon on Feb. 22.
